Meeting Old Friends

Up at 4:30 a.m. today...couldn't sleep. Had buffet breakfast at the hotel (1/2 western and 1/2 Japanese) and a nice cappucino (after I figured out which button made the brew I wanted!). Then a few of us ventured out for a little konbini (convenience store) shopping for mid-day snacks and found the mall under the train station. After picking up some washcloths (no towels in the public bathrooms here!), we headed back for an afternoon of rehearsal at the Itami Aiphonic Hall, a beautiful hall with 600 seats and great accoustics. It will be a pleasure to present our first concert there tomorrow!

My Japanese friend from college days took the train from Matsusaka to Itami (100 miles) to see me today. We haven't seen each other in about 25 years! Kazumi enjoyed watching some of our rehearsal and then helped a few of us find a small but delicious traditional restaurant (udon and tempura for most of us!) where we could eat and catch up. It was sad to say goodbye, and I hope it won't be so long before we meet again!
