Niigata! Snow! Snow! Snow! BRR!

Airport security is a lot different here in Japan. I didn't even have to show any identification. My boarding pass didn't even have my name on it. Just a gate, flight number and a seat number. We had to pack our luggage and load it on a truck last night and I left my deodorant and body spray in my back pack. TSA would have thrown it out if were in America but here they checked it out to make sure it was what the label said it was and I got it back. Thank you kind Japanese airport security person!

The flight was about 1-hour long. As we got closer we were able to see snow everywhere! Except on the nearby mountain.... It was very cool to look down and see all possible roads cleared of snow. It just looked very, well, neat!

Once we landed, we were led to a bus which drove us 30 minutes to our hotel. They don't always get it right but it is still appreciated all the same!

Once we arrived at the Niigata Grand Hotel, a group of brave souls went to find a late lunch. We were led by our illustrious leader, Tamamura-san through rain, sleet, puddles of water, wind and very slippery snow to the 7th floor of this department store. Once we reached the 7th floor, there was this outdoor area that was covered in snow with a set of neat foot prints in the snow.

After another turn, we were welcomed by an English speaking Japanese waitress. Mere coincidence. Most restaurants have labeled plastic food displays and we've found that taking a picture of what we want and showing the waiter or waitress the picture or cross referencing the picture to the menu helps a lot in ordering food. I had tempura with hot udon and sashimi with rice and this tasty mushroom and seafood custard.

After lunch we made our way back down to the entrance of the department store and braved the
weather once again back to our hotel. There wasn't any rain or sleet on the way back so we got to put away the umbrellas and were able to pay more attention to the slippery ice. However, the wind did not help ease the trip back.

We stopped at the Lawsons (a convenient store comparable to 7-11 or high end corner store) picked up a few things. I got chapstick, water and ice cream mochi.

Now I am relaxing in my hotel room waiting to go meet up with everyone to go look for something sweet to eat. Tomorrow we have a 1:15 call time to get on the bus for a 90 minute ride to Koidego Culture Hall for our second concert!
