Out and About in Morioka

On Thursday 12/13, we had a little time off in the morning before the concert call time.  Jim, Emil, Jan and I walked around Morioka.  It was cold, and the ground had crunchy icy snow.  Although we had a somewhat blue sky, the flurries would sometimes fall.  It was very pretty.

We walked to the Morioka Castle site, a short distance from our hotel.  The castle was long gone, but the site still had foundations and such.  Since much of Japan's population builds on the flat lands, a hill makes for a great viewing spot.

Emil returned to the hotel, while Jim, Jan, and I continued on our trek to Takamatsu No Ike Pond.  Although it was frozen over in most places, the ducks and geese didn't seem to mind.  The sign said that this pond is one of the most beautiful places in Japan when the cherry trees are in bloom.

Later, the Sonosians went out to dinner together, which pretty much fills up any restaurant.  Most places don't have large seating areas, sometimes only 10-15 people can be seated.  This one was a little larger.  Yummy udon, rice bowls, soba, curry, beer!
